Book Orders
Now that the first book fair has come and gone, I will begin including, in the Friday Folder, flyers from Scholastic for our classroom book club. I would like to make it as easy as possible for you or your child to purchase books through out the school year; there are two ways to do this. First, and perhaps the easiest, is to order the books online through scholastic.com. Here's how:
You can also send your order to school with your child. To do this simply mark your selections on the order form on the back of the monthly flyer, and send them into class with a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs. All orders, both in-class and on-line will be due by the 5th of every month, unless it falls on a weekend, in which case it will be do on the preceding Friday.

Dear Parents,
My name is Joe Perreault and I will be your child's fourth grade teacher. It is an honor and a privilege to work with such an amazing group of students.
There are several things I would like you to know about my classroom. The first, and perhaps more important, is that I believe parental involvement and communication are vital to teaching and education. As such, I look forward to working closely with each of you. As we progress through the first few weeks of school, I will be reaching out for volunteers to serve as classroom helpers, guest readers, etc.
This year your child will be working within many different academic disciplines. In addition to this, however, they will be working on responsibility and organization. I expect my students to maintain a neatly organized desk, as well as folders for their work. I also expect that my students will strive to be their best. To do so, the expectations I have for my students will be high, and I know that the work they produce will be reflective of these expectations. Please help me by reinforcing these skills at home.
Each night your students will come home with a daily folder. One side of the folder will be labeled "Take Home," and the other "Bring Back." The students will "take home" homework, flyers, announcements, notes, and other school related materials. Coming back to school, the students will bring their homework, signed paperwork, and any notes you may have for me or the office. These folders must be in school every day, and while they are the responsibility of the students, you can help in the beginning of the year to establish a routine.
In addition to the daily folder, all students will have a Friday folder. This folder will be used to take home any corrected work at the end of each week. In the Friday folder, you will also find a copy of the weekly "Fireside Chat." The "Chat" is designed to spark conversations between you and your child. It will contain tidbits from the lessons your child learned this week, as well as some helpful questions which will allow you to avoid the dreaded, "So, how was your week?" question. There will occasionally be reminders of upcoming activities, which will also come to you through the "Fireside Chat."
There is one additional consideration of which you should be aware. Please pack a healthy snack and water for your child each day. Avoiding overly processed and sugary foods will ensure that your student receives the necessary nutrition to be an active and engaged member of our classroom. Some excellent choices are fruit, vegetables, yogurt, string cheese, and granola bars. The nurse will will send a letter home detailing any allergy considerations of which you should be aware while packing your child's snack. A friendly reminder, we are a nut-free classroom!
Please feel free to visit my site as often as you like. I will update it often with homework, class news, important dates, and blog posts to keep everyone up-to-date on the interesting things the students will be doing this year.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
I eagerly anticipate a productive and prosperous year with you and your children.
Sincerely,
Mr. Perreault
